Listed as one of the 30 Best Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trots in America, the Charlotte Turkey Trot celebrates its 35th year in 2023!
Join us on Thanksgiving Day morning and choose from several fun options to participate including an 8K Run, a 5K Run/Walk, a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and a Tot Trot. Starting and finishing at the SouthPark Mall, the largest road race (9,000+) in North Carolina is a homecoming destination for extended families, old classmates, and a place to meet and celebrate with neighbors. The community comes together for the official Charlotte kick-off to the holiday season!
You’ll see a host of upgrades to the event experience in 2023. We’ve added additional pre-event Packet Pick-up opportunities, revamped our start line, improved our Pridemore Compass Costume Contest and added a Towne Bank Cheer Section for your final sprint/walk to the finish line! In addition, our friends at Suffolk Punch Brewery at SouthPark Mall will be open race morning 7-11am with a special menu and full bar. For the full schedule and entire list of event day benefits and upgrades see “Event Schedule” link below.
THANKS FOR GIVING
2023 COMMUNITY OUTREACH - LEAD BENEFICIARIES
CMPD EXPLORERS HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE – A minimum $10,000 donation will be made in 2023 to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the CMPD Police Explorers who collect toys and donations to provide a Christmas for less fortunate families in Charlotte. The goal of the CMPD Explorers Christmas Project is to aid families that are experiencing an emergency situation during the holiday season. These family referrals come from Police Officers and Firefighters. We are proud to partner with the CMPD, the CMPD Explorers (future officers), and the CMFD as we strive to collect thousands of toys via the event and our participants.
A COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY
Charity is at the core of the Charlotte Turkey Trot. 20% of all sponsorship revenue is a direct donation to charity.
During the last 3 years Samaritan’s Feet, as the lead beneficiary received funding for six (6) school “shoe locker” programs. Each of the six (6) schools received a year’s supply of shoes to provide children in need. In 2023 we will add another school to the donation list providing shoes for a year – thanks to a generous donation by Windsor Jewelers – the official timing partner of the event.
2022 Community Outreach included:
$10,000 donation to Running Works to help Charlotte area homeless, severely impoverished and marginalized with housing, transportation, employment, mental health, and recovery services.
As part of our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts, 119 students from local Title 1 schools participated in the Community Runners program receiving complimentary event registration and hospitality.
All unused finished line food and beverages provided by Harris Teeter is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
500 event T-shirts were provided to Project Outpour for their use in helping the homeless in Charlotte.
